"This summer I stumbled upon an early and mostly forgotten George Orwell novel called A Clergyman's Daughter, a book that was little read in his lifetime and perhaps even less read now. The novel's protagonist is Dorothy Hare, the daughter of a selfish and indifferent rector living in the English countryside in the early part of the 20th century."
